Amid protests against the ban on Jallikattu, police on Sunday detained several people in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu for organising the bull-taming sport, in defiance of the Supreme Court order.
In Sivaganga district, the Mukkulathor Pulipadai Party, an AIADMK ally, decided to go ahead with Jallikattu at 10 am.
Supporters of the sport along with major political parties in the state have been demanding an ordinance to allow Jallikattu. Sources on Friday said the Centre was ready with a draft ordinance but had not taken a call on its promulgation. A day earlier, the Supreme Court has said it could not deliver a verdict before Pongal festivities.
